Mike McLaughlin of Mike's Bikes in St. Louis kept after Steve Johnson to build a Cruiser for adults, and John Johnson backed him up. Prototyping started in the summer of 1980. Clint Miller raced the first one at the NBA Supernationals in San Diego in April 1981 and won, his first race on the big wheeler. Steve told \u003cem\u003eBicycle Motocross Action\u003c\/em\u003e they had never had a product \"so immediately accepted as being so hot.\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 24\" was Clint's bike from the start. It began as a scaled-down 26\". Clint told Torker to shorten up the rear end and quicken the steering, and Torker built it. \u003cem\u003eBMX Plus\u003c\/em\u003e tested it in November 1982 and called it a race bike that is forgiving enough for the novice.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor our 50th year we are building both one more time.
