Doug Olson

When looking at the photo of the 1979 National #1 Torker Racing Team, one rider stands above the rest...LITERALLY! Known for his size and strength, at 6-foot-3 Doug towered over many competitors and brought a powerful presence to both the track and the team. He raced a variety of Torker machines during a period of rapid design evolution, including early versions of the LP frame, one of which featured a 23-inch top tube that he customized himself!

Doug played a key role in establishing BMX in Nebraska, competing under both NBA and ABA sanction and becoming the first Nebraskan to secure a factory sponsorship from a major BMX manufacturer. He rode for the Factory Torker Team from 1978 through the 1980s, representing the brand at major events and helping expand its presence beyond California.

In recognition of his contributions to BMX and his impact on the sport’s growth, Doug Olson was inducted into the Nebraska BMX Hall of Fame in 2010. His legacy is reflected in both his racing achievements and his role in developing BMX in the Midwest.
