About Torker BMX — America's Original BMX Brand Since 1976
Torker BMX — 50 Years of Shaping the Sport We Love
Torker BMX is one of the original American BMX brands, with roots going back to 1976 — making it one of the longest-running names in the sport's history. At a time when BMX racing was being invented in the backyards and dirt lots of Southern California, Torker was already there. Before the brands, before the magazines, before the stadiums — there was Torker. And there were riders.
This is their story. And now it's yours.
Where It All Started — The Birth of a Legend
The company behind Torker, originally known as Texon, was founded by John Johnson in 1975, with Steve Johnson taking the brand forward as Torker BMX from 1976. Built out of Southern California — the birthplace of BMX — Torker quickly became one of the most recognized names in early BMX racing . The brand's iconic twin top tube design and black-and-yellow racing colors became a symbol of speed, attitude, and Southern California cool.
In its early years, Torker attracted some of the fastest and most influential riders in the sport. These weren't just athletes — they were the architects of what BMX culture would become. And their names still echo across every track and skatepark today.
The Legends Who Built the Torker Legacy
You can't tell the Torker story without telling the stories of the riders who made the brand legendary. These are the people whose names are now on our frames — because that's the respect they earned:
| Rider | Era | Their Mark on BMX |
|---|---|---|
| Clint "The Barbarian" Miller | Late 70s–Early 80s | Torker's first and most notorious Pro. First IBMXF World Pro Champion. Led the #1 team in '78. The face that carried Torker from the 1970s into the 1980s. |
| Eddy King | Early 80s | The first Torker rider to have a signature frame. Won back-to-back #1 plates. An OG icon of the early BMX scene and a BMX Hall of Fame inductee. |
| Bob Haro | Early 80s | Rode a Torker frame when he invented BMX freestyle. The father of freestyle BMX. What he started on a Torker changed the sport forever. |
| Eddie Fiola | Early 80s | The King of the Skateparks. Followed Bob Haro's lead on a Torker and helped take freestyle BMX from parking lots to the world stage. |
| Tommy "The Human Dragster" Brackens | Mid 80s | Raw speed. Pure power. The Human Dragster brought relentless racing intensity to the Torker name through the 1984 era. |
| Mike "Hollywood" Miranda | Mid 80s | Style to match the speed. Brackens and Miranda were inseparable — the Torker Twins. They lived together, trained together, and helped build Torker's most beloved era. |
| Matt "The Diesel" Hadan | Late 80s–90s | The last factory pro to rep Torker. A force in AA Pro and Pro Cruiser. Grit, speed, and results — the Diesel era closed out one of the greatest chapters in BMX history. |
| Jason "Juicy Jaws" Jensen | Mid 80s | The youngest of the Torker factory riders, with a personality that filled every room — and a racing record that backed it up. |
| Cathy "The Heart Throb" Hanna | Mid 80s | One of the original female BMX racers, racing fast and representing Torker with skill and spirit in an era when women's BMX was just getting started. |
Freestyle Was Born on a Torker
This isn't a slogan — it's history. When Bob Haro first started doing tricks on a bicycle, he was riding a Torker frame. When he and Eddie Fiola took those moves to skateparks and parking lots across California and began what would become BMX freestyle, they were doing it on Torker bikes. The sport of freestyle BMX — the moves, the culture, the athletes — traces its DNA directly back to those early Torker rides.
That's not something you can replicate. You can't manufacture heritage. You can only honor it.
The Torker Comeback — Resurrected for Today's Riders
After years of absence, Torker BMX has been fully revived and is now operating out of Apple Valley, California, under the same ownership as Supercross BMX — one of the most respected racing brands in the world today. But while Supercross is all about carbon fiber, UCI World Cups, and modern race geometry, Torker is about something different. Torker is about history. Community. The feeling you had when you first got on a BMX bike and realized there was nothing else like it.
Our mission is twofold: to honor the legends who made this brand great, and to create frames that today's riders — whether they're first-time buyers, nostalgia-driven collectors, or seasoned BMX veterans — can be proud to own and ride. Every frame we make is a piece of BMX history made new again.
What We Make — The Torker Frame Lineup
Every Torker frame is either a faithful revival of a classic model or a modern interpretation built with the same spirit as the original. Our current lineup includes:

Based in California — Where BMX Was Born
Torker Racing operates from Apple Valley, California, in the high desert of Southern California — the same region that gave birth to BMX racing and freestyle more than 50 years ago. We share our home with Supercross BMX, and together we represent two sides of the same passion: the history that made BMX what it is, and the performance that keeps pushing it forward.
Welcome back to your childhood. Welcome to the endless summer.
